Who's That Girl?

Saw this today, and just had to post it for people to see. Kudos to this woman! Really.

I'm gonna say it. Thousands of innocent people are dying in our war, and we're fascinated by Paris Hilton. Wake up America!

I've Returned

Hi folks! Been a stressful week here at the homestead. Apologies for not being a faithful blogger.

I'm using this humble little blog to put out a fashion APB for any of you lovely people out there on the interweb. Had brunch with the folks today, and saw a woman wearing a shirt that just made me about burst with joy. It was a Queen t-shirt from one of their tours. Queen is probably one of my favorite bands of all time. Freddie Mercury has been a hero of mine since I was about 12. It was probably a "repro", but it was definitely not something that Hot Topic is currently carrying.

It was a jersey t-shirt, and I believe I've surmised it's from their 1977-1978 tour because it's got a News of the World Robot in the middle of the "Q" in "Queen", and has a cool picture of them on the rest of the shirt. It will sort of resemble this, but the picture doesn't take up the whole shirt.

If any kind soul can find this in a Size Small for me, please contact me at my e-mail address. I'll happily reimburse you if you find it. And love you forever, of course! I know it's a long shot, but the interweb is a magical thing. :)

In related news.. it appears that although a coke-fiend, Lindsay Lohan has excellent taste in music and fashion.

Follow Your Heart

I'm absolutely speechless. In a good way! One of my favorite British comedians is David Walliams, star of "Little Britain." I was just noodling around YouTube and found this amazing video. It seriously moved me so much. David is a patron of a charity in England called Cardiac Risk in the Young. He recently made a promotional video to show children and their families that being screened for heart disease is not a scary process.

Words cannot express how much it means to me to see someone I admire so much be a champion of something that is so important to me. I am a proud survivor of two open heart surgeries. I was stunned and moved to watch one of my heroes undergo medical procedures I've endured all my life. David, my love for you has quadrupled. You're an amazing man.

Let's all be more aware of Congenital Heart Defects and make this a priority worldwide... not just the UK.

Cranky Pants

Waaah! Not much in the mood for blogging today. I have a monster sore throat and it's hotter than the sun outside. Just wanted to say howdy, because I've noticed a small bunch of people like to check in from time to time. :) I'll be back in a day or two with some (hopefully) amusing adventures or such.

Happy Father's Day!

I know it's almost the end of the day, but I wanted to wish all of you fathers out there a very Happy Father's Day! This is me and my Dad, when I was about 2 years old. As you can see, I loved the color pink from way back when.

We're not big on celebrating Hallmark-invented holidays in my family. We did take my Dad out to breakfast this morning at a local diner. Hey, nothing says I love you like pancakes, right?

After that, we took a nice little stroll around a local smaller city called Ballston Spa. My Mom is a knitter and all around crafty gal, so we went to a craft co-op she found called Strolling Village Artisans. I L-O-V-E purses, especially ones that were designed by local and talented crafters. This isn't exactly the purse I bought, but it's pretty close.. and super cute. I actually met the woman Debra Ann Salat who designed it, yesterday, when I went to a local craft fair.

I just love the beading and stitching. And pink!!! People are so talented. I've really been thinking that I'd love to start my own little crafty business. I do know how to embroider and cross-stitch. I'm thinking of teaching myself how to be more nimble with a sewing machine. I wish I knew what my gimmick could be, because so many other girls much more talented than I are out there.

At The Movies

So I saw the matinee of "Ocean's Thirteen" today. Frankly, I was pretty surprised that Soderbergh and co. were willing to make a trilogy. I guess they have a lot of fun doing it, and the moolah must be attractive.

I thought it was pretty good. It's a real potato chip of a movie. Goes right through you, but you enjoy it as you're taking it in. A girl could do worse than spend two hours looking at Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Matt Damon, and Eddie Izzard. I ain't mad at Andy Garcia, either. Yowzah! Happily, it's not one of those sequels where you'd have to see one of the earlier films to understand any of the plot. Kudos goes to Soderbergh for getting a restrained performance from Al Pacino as the new baddie. Homeboy's been more hammy than Easter lunch in his past few movies.

In sum, I'd recommend it if you like the cast, and you enjoyed the other two "Ocean's" movies. The only downside to my experience was this total jagoff who was sitting next to me who had seen the movie before and loudly told his stupid friend a surprise plot point. I'm used to seeing screenings in my former abode of Los Angeles, so I guess my moviegoing experiences have spoiled me.

Winning The Battle of the Bulge

Well I'm very happy to announce that I've lost about 2.5 pounds since last week! I've recently escaped a very stressful situation. While I was in it, I was doing a lot of eating out and noshing. I'm only 4'10", so even just a few extra pounds make me look awful. I'm not vain, but I like to be healthy.. thank you very much. :)

A nice boost to my ego occurred when I went looking in the petites department of Ann Taylor Loft. I was relieved to find that I fit very well into a Size 6 pair of jeans and a cute blouse in a size Small. Praise Jeebus! Now if I just keep up my will power, I'll be back to my fighting weight. I really recommend Ann Taylor Loft to any of you ladies who are looking for cute outfits to wear to work. It's moderately priced and the clothing isn't too stodgy. It's really cute stuff to wear to work if you have an office job.

Now I'm off to work a little on a counted cross stitch pattern I found today. I'm not quite clever enough to embroider clothing, or brazen enough to do the stuff at Subversive Cross Stitch. My happy medium is to usually just buy a kit, but some of them are just so frump-tastic. So I decided to get this. It's a little bit more funky than doing a cottage or something uber-religious. I'll keep y'all updated on my progess.

Don't Stop Believin'

It's several days after the fact, but the controversial series finale of "The Sopranos" is still rocking the internet and watercoolers all over America. What do you all think happened? If you read the message boards on the IMDB or such, you sure won't find articulate discourse about theories. People are either infuriated or have a strong opinion about what happened and damn anyone else who disagrees.

I think if you pay close attention to the final scene, it's pretty obvious that something bad happened. My first thought was, "Yikes! So the whole family got whacked?!?" Now David Chase is saying there's no chance that they'll make a Sopranos movie. I for one think that Tony was killed, and this website seems to agree with me. Anybody out there who followed the show more faithfully than me have anything to share? I know I'll never giggle when I hear the opening bars of "Don't Stop Believing" anymore. But it does evoke childhood memories of having Clams Casino at Randazzo's on Emmons Avenue in Brooklyn.

Hi There, Hey There, Ho There

Howdy folks! Welcome to my humble little blog. I'm Carrie. Nice to meet ya! I'm a petite, pink loving, showtune belting, fashion loving computer nerd. I live in Upstate NY, and I'm currently "between things", as the kids say. I love to laugh, and one of my greatest loves is British comedy. My top 3 faves are: Little Britain, Alan Partridge, and The Office/Extras (basically anything Ricky Gervais has done).

Check here from time to time for my musings about pop culture, fashion, or life in general. I look forward to making friends and hearing from all you lovely people out there on the interweb. I won't talk your ears off for now, but I'll be back! Toodles for now. :)
